           ABOUT US

It all started 3,000 years ago, with some 100,000 Maya people living in a jungle jewel setting now called Belize. Most of the Maya people are now gone, except for a few families that still live and work in the area. When they left, they left behind their dwelling places and many things from their everyday life, that today can be found scattered all over the place. For example the broken pottery that abounds at the open wells where once, young ones came for water. Such wells are found in this property and thus the name “Mayan Wells” was born.

Carl and Martha Simons arrived in Belize in 1988 with their two small children. In 1991 with machete in hand, the job began of once again subduing the land and restoring it to its beauty of long ago. Clearing unwanted bush and planting a large variety of fruits trees and shrubs that both the birds and wild life use for food and nesting. The jaguars and mountain tapirs along with a host of smaller animals make Mayan Wells their home. It has become one of the places sought after for its quite serenity, bird watching, and the great Belizean food served at the world famous Mayan Wells.

Mayan Wells is situated on 40 acres and is surrounded by tropical broadleaf jungle that attracts an array of wildlife to the grounds. Twenty acres is beautifully landscaped with mature hardwood trees such as the mahogany and the zerocote trees.
